Meet the team

kat, general manager

For our second meet-the-team feature, it is our pleasure to introduce you to our general manager Kat, who is fabulous, and covering Jade while she is on maternity leave.

Kat has lived her whole life in Cornwall, growing up in the county’s capital, Truro, and knows the local area like the back of her hand. Despite mainly working in the hospitality industry she has also spent time working as a youth worker, running sessions for children and young people.

Additionally, she has recently completed a degree in Human Behavioural Studies with Plymouth University. Kat met her partner, Ryan, while working together in a restaurant in Truro seven years ago. We are delighted that they are now working together again at Sabzi, as he recently joined as one of our newest chefs.

We sat down with Kat to ask her a few questions and get to know her a little better…

Hi Kat! Could you describe your job in three words?

Social, diverse and fulfilling!

What’s the best thing that’s happened to you this week?

This week I got my results for my degree and I achieved a 1st class honours, which I am absolutely buzzing about!

How do you like to start your day?

Oh it’s got to be with a flat white from Sabzi and a delicious cinnamon and tahini bun! What a perfect way to start a day!

What motivates you?

The desire to do the best I can at every opportunity I am offered.

What’s your favourite snack?

A bag of Thai sweet chili crisps and a pot of sour cream and chive dip. If I'm not careful the whole lot would be gone in one sitting!

What was your first job?

My first job was working in a bed and breakfast in Truro, as a waitress, serving the guests breakfast. Before I worked in hospitality I was incredibly shy but serving customers and meeting new people everyday has increased my confidence so much!

What are you passionate about?

I want to see as much of the world as I can. I have been lucky enough to have already travelled for several months when I finished college and I am now planning a longer trip, and hoping to live in another country for a while.

Who’s your favourite musical artist?

Oooh… either Beyonce or Adele. I love to whack them on in car journeys, as they are great to sing along to and automatically lift your mood.

What’s one thing you are currently trying to make a habit of?

Reading books before I go to bed. After a busy day at work reading a book is a great way for me to switch off from the world and calm my mind! When I read before bed I have such a better night's sleep.

What topic could you give an hour-long presentation on with little, to no preparation?

Human Behavioural Studies – having just finished my degree in this it is all very fresh in my mind.

What food have you tried that’s the furthest out of your comfort zone?

When I was in Cambodia, I tried a rat that had been barbecued. I really wasn't keen on trying it but to be honest it wasn't actually that bad – however I definitely won't be doing it again!

If you could eat one dish for every meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

A roast dinner, with plenty of gravy. There's a lot going on and to be honest I can't see myself ever getting bored of it.

Where would you take a Sabzi lunchbox to eat?

Curgurrell Beach to enjoy after a dip and with a glass of dry rosé.

Thank you Kat.
